Ask Your WI Legislators to Support Nonpartisan Redistricting and Fair Maps
Find out who your WI Assembly and Senate representatives are:
Wisconsin State Legislature
Go to the Who Are My Legislators? section on the front page and use put your address in or use the Find My Map tool. You will then be given your representatives names and contact information.
Here’s a script you can use – feel free to make it your own by personalizing it and perhaps even including a personal story that illustrates how you’ve been impacted by gerrymandering:
Hello, I’m [your name] from [your town in Wisconsin]. I’m calling because I care about having fair, nonpartisan voting districts in Wisconsin. I want to see an end to gerrymandering.
I don’t like it that 18 out of 99 Assembly seats, and 5 Senate seats, were unopposed in the 2020 election because the districts are drawn to give such a lopsided advantage to one party that it doesn’t make sense for the other party to put up a candidate. People should always be able to choose with their vote, and their votes should not be wasted.
Gerrymandering wastes votes, costs us money, and it hurts Wisconsin. I want you to support the work of the People’s Maps Commission. I like how they are listening to people and learning about how to make the maps more representative and fair.
[Use this paragraph if your county has passed a referendum. Here are the referendum results by county]
I know my neighbors agree with me because we voted on a referendum to require nonpartisan voting districts last spring in our county election. That passed by more than 75%, and Pierce County joined 28 other counties and 20 municipalities that have passed that referendum with similar majorities.
I know you want things to be fair, too, so please support the People’s Maps Commission and work to end gerrymandering. Thanks.
